Bakuriani

Bakuriani Ski Resort is a famous winter resort located 180 km west of Tbilisi at an altitude of 1800 meters in the Borjomi Gorge, surrounded by the mighty Caucasus Mountains. The local population calls this place “Sunny Valley“. The world-famous Borjomi Springs originate from the tops of the Bakurian Mountains. It takes only 30-40 minutes to drive to the wells and bottling plants from the village in clear weather.
Both winter and summer tourism are well developed here. In the Soviet years, Bakuriani was a traditional venue for winter sports competitions: slalom, bobsleigh, biathlon, and ski jumping. This place was a favorite vacation spot of the Russian royal family and the royal palace is still preserved here.

 

Ski tours in Bakurian are held in comfortable climatic conditions. Winters here are cold, but not severe (-6 and -7 degrees) and usually sunny and snowy. The weather is mostly calm. High duration of sunny days – 2100 hours per year. The average snow cover is 64 cm.
Even now, the Bakuriani winter resort is a favorite destination for winter sports and recreation enthusiasts. The amazing beauty and amazing climatic conditions, crystal clear air, the tops of grandiose mountains with endless coniferous forests make tourists’ vacation unforgettable.



The new comfortable lifts give you the opportunity to relax before the exciting descent from the top of Kokhta Hora, which is considered one of the best slopes for professional skiers. Trails

The total length of the tracks is 5 km

The track is for beginners, the length of the cable car is 300 m, the slope of the mountain is 10 – 12 ˚.
Kokhta-1 is a two-stage route with a total length of 1500 meters. Black track “Slope”, slope up to 54˚. The blue “Plateau” track.
Kokhta-2 is a two-stage track with a total length of 3000 meters. Cable cars take skiers above forest level to alpine fields at an altitude of 2850 meters.

“Kohta-2 ” (Tatra) is a two-stage piste belonging to the red-blue category, where steep slopes give way to comfortable gentle ones. There are also several trails for beginners. Some tracks are FIS certified.

Three ski jumps were built, 45, 70 and 90 meters high, as well as a well-groomed luge track (1350 meters). For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, the 13-kilometer trail to the Tschratskaro Pass (2780 meters up) is ideal.

Apres ski

Apres ski lovers can find small, cozy cafes at the foot of Mount Kohta. There is an equipment rental and a restaurant downstairs. Upstairs, at an altitude of 3000 meters, there is a cafe with views of Bakuriani and the Caucasus Range.
There is a children’s ski school, experienced instructors, equipment rental, an outdoor skating rink, horseback riding, snowmobiling, and open tour bus rides.

One of the most beautiful and interesting places in the resort is the Borjomi Gorge. Not far from this gorge is the picturesque village of Daba, where there is a small ancient chapel built right in the cave (by the way, Christian buildings in caves are not so rare here). Here you can also see one of the oldest trees in the world, the Georgian yew, which is over 2000 years old. Not far from Borjomi, there is another gorge, Tsagveri, which, like Borjomi, is rich in healing waters.


Those tourists who prefer extreme recreation can go from the Bakuriani resort to one of the most beautiful places – the Bakurianis-Tskali Gorge with its magnificent crystalline rocks, sometimes several tens of meters high.

In the Borjomi Gorge, you can also go paragliding, jeeping, rafting, and many other extreme activities. Fishing enthusiasts can go fishing in the numerous mountain lakes, where trout are found in large quantities!
